I meet the ancient world

Yesterday I:

* ate a very ripe fig, very thoughtfully, standing by the ruins of the prison where Socrates drank hemlock.

* bought a rug from a Cretan, having drunk several cups of coffee, eaten a biscuit 'made by his aunt', drunk 2 paper cups of red wine, caused him to 'call his mother and ask her if he can do something special for me', been complimented on my eyes (while wearing sunglasses), and walked away twice. Thanks Theo.

* found OT safe and well, snoozing when I got back to the hotel.

* ate a delicious round flat cake that was like a light steamed christmas pudding.

* spoke to a cat in the ruins of Hadrian's library

* ate gyros for dinner looking at the temple of Athena Nike, flood-lit and splendid.
